Two-factor authentication

Two-factor authentication

Your account’s security is our priority – which is why we recommend two-factor authentication (2FA). It’s easy to set up, and you’ll be familiar with the process from other financial platforms.

What is 2FA?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a second security layer for your account protecting against unauthorised access. In addition to your regular password, 2FA requires a one-time password (OTP) generated either by authenticator app, email or mobile phone.

Please note that enabling 2FA is mandatory for all users in order to comply with regulatory requirements and to ensure high level of protection for your account.

How do I set up 2FA?

If 2FA has not been set up previously, you will be prompted to enable it the next time you log in to your account—whether via the IG trading platform on iOS, Android, desktop, or mobile web. Please ensure that you are using the latest version of the IG trading application to complete the setup successfully.

How do I set up OTP on MT4?

MT4 is a third-party platform, so a one-time password (OTP) must be set up separately within the MT4 application, and it cannot be managed through your IG account settings.

  2. Navigate to Settings and select OTP

  3. Create your 4-digit security PIN (you'll need this each time you access the OTP generator)

  4. Bind your account:

You'll see a confirmation message once your account is successfully linked.

  5. — Tap the "Bind" button at the top of the screen

  6. — Ensure the "Bind" option remains enabled

  7. — Enter your MT4 login credentials

  8. — Tap "Bind to account"

Logging in after OTP setup:

  1. Open your MT4 terminal on mobile or desktop

  2. Enter your account number and master password

  3. When prompted, open the OTP section in your MT4 mobile app

  4. Enter the one-time password displayed on your mobile device to complete login

How do I log in with 2FA?

On desktop

When logging in on the desktop platform, you’ll enter your username/email and password as usual. Once verified, you’ll be prompted to enter a One-Time Password (OTP) based on the 2FA method you have enabled — whether that’s via email, SMS to your mobile phone, or an authentication app.

Once you input the correct authentication code, you’ll be logged in successfully.

On mobile (app users with biometrics enabled)

If you’ve enabled biometric login (such as Face ID or fingerprint), you’ll first authenticate using your biometrics. Afterwards, you’ll be prompted to enter the OTP from your chosen 2FA method — either email, SMS, or your authentication app.

Once you input the correct authentication code, you’ll be logged in successfully.

What authentication app can I use?

You can use industry-standard authentication apps from companies like Microsoft, Google or Authy.

How do I switch-off 2FA?

You won’t be able to switch off 2FA entirely, as it is mandatory for account security. However, if you've set up any additional 2FA methods and wish to deactivate them, you can do so through the IG mobile app.

To disable an additional 2FA method:

  1. Log in to your IG account via the mobile app.

  2. Go to Account > Security.

  3. Select the additional 2FA you'd like to disable.

  4. You'll be prompted to enter a one-time password (OTP).

  5. Once the OTP is entered correctly, the additional 2FA will be successfully disabled.

How do I set up 2FA on a new phone?

If you’ve previously set up 2FA using an authenticator app on your old phone and no longer have access to it, you’ll need to disable that 2FA first before setting it up on your new device.

Since 2FA is mandatory and cannot be completely turned off, please make sure you have at least one other 2FA method (such as mobile number or email) enabled before requesting to disable the authenticator app.

To proceed, please send a request from your registered email address to helpdesk.sg@ig.com or contact us at 6390 5118. Our agents will be able to assist to disable the current authenticator app 2FA so you can set it up again on your new phone.
