What do I need to know about the IG app at launch?

The IG app brings your IG accounts together in one place. Here is what you need to know at launch.

Getting started

Can I set up a profile without a live account?

Yes. If you are new to IG, you can set up a profile in the IG app to explore instruments and discover trading and investing content before opening a live account.

What can I do before I open an account?

Once your profile is set up, you can:

  • Browse instruments — search and explore all available assets across investing and crypto

  • Create watchlists — add instruments to your watchlist to track them

  • Set price alerts — set alerts on instruments before you open an account. Price alerts are coming soon to the new IG app.

To fund your account or place a trade, you will need to complete the onboarding process first.

What will I see when I first open the app?

If you are new to IG, you will land on the homepage with a call to action to begin your account application. You will also see daily movers and a selection of instruments to explore while you get set up.

If you already have an IG account, you will see your positions, balances, and accounts as soon as you log in.

Can I use a demo account on the IG app?

Demo accounts are a feature we are working on and will be available on the IG app in the future. We are unable to confirm a timeline at this stage. When this feature becomes available, this article will be updated. You can also reach out to us via Chat or WhatsApp at a later stage to check on availability.

Homepage and navigation

What is Focus Mode?

Focus Mode lets you filter the app by product type. You can choose from:

  • All — view everything across all product types

  • Stocks — GIA, ISA, and JISA accounts

  • CFD and Spread Bet are coming soon to the new IG app. The CFD and Spread Bet Focus Mode options will be added when those products are available. Available Focus Mode options are: All / Stocks / Cryptocurrency.

  • Cryptocurrency — crypto instruments

Focus Mode applies across the homepage, search, and watchlists. You can switch modes at any time.

Can I view all my positions across all my accounts in one place?

Yes. The IG app is the first IG platform to show all your positions — with the exception of options positions — across all your accounts in a single view. Previously, each platform only showed positions for one account at a time.

Your available balance and total balance are shown at the top of the homepage. These figures update to reflect the account type you are viewing if you use Focus Mode.

How do I fund my account from the homepage?

Tap the Available to invest button at the top of the homepage to add money to your account.

Search

How does search work on the IG app?

You can search for any instrument across investing and crypto products, regardless of which accounts you hold. Search results are organised by category — for example, ETF, Complex ETF, Investment Trust, and Shares — so you can quickly find what you are looking for.

Can I see instruments I do not currently have an account for?

Yes. You can view instruments across all product types. If you do not hold the relevant account, the instrument will appear in a disabled state. You can explore it and learn more, but you will not be able to trade or invest in it until you open the relevant account.

Watchlists

How do watchlists work on the IG app?

You can create custom watchlists and access system watchlists provided by IG. You can add instruments, rename your watchlists, and customise what information is displayed — such as percentage change, asset price, or buy/sell prices.

Focus Mode applies to watchlists. If you are in Stocks mode, for example, you will only see stock instruments in your watchlist view.

How many watchlists can I create?

You can create up to 50 watchlists in total.

Will my watchlists from other IG platforms carry over to the IG app?

Yes. Your existing watchlists from the IG Invest app will be migrated to the new IG app. However, any new watchlist you create in the new app will not sync back to other IG platforms.

Price alerts

Trading and orders

Can I trade from multiple accounts?

Yes. When placing a trade, you can choose which account to trade from directly within the deal ticket. When buying a stock, for example, you will see an account selector where you can pick from any of your share dealing accounts — including your GIA, ISA, or JISA.

What happens if I do not have enough funds in my account?

If you try to trade in an account with insufficient funds, you will see the option to top up your account or move funds from another account — all without leaving the deal ticket, so you can act quickly when you spot an opportunity.

How do I modify a pending or working order?

You cannot edit a pending or working order directly at launch, but this is a feature we will offer very soon. To change the terms of an order, cancel it and re-establish it with the new details. In the meantime, please use our web trading platform or IG Trading to edit your working order.

Instruments and product details

Can I view all instruments on the IG app?

Yes. The IG app lets you browse all available instruments regardless of your account type. Use Focus Mode to filter by product type — Stocks or Cryptocurrency, for example. CFD and spread betting accounts are coming soon to the new IG app.

What information is shown on a product details page?

The product details page shows charts, fundamental data, news, analyst ratings, and analyst price targets where available. You can add the instrument to your watchlist directly from this page.

OTC product details (CFD and spread betting) are coming soon. Information that is not relevant to a specific instrument type will be hidden automatically.

What happens if I cannot trade a complex ETF?

If you have not passed the appropriateness assessment for a complex ETF, you will see a 'call us' button on the product details page instead of the standard buy button. To unlock trading for that instrument, contact us via Chat or WhatsApp — the assessment is currently completed over the phone.

Can I view derivatives of an instrument?

Derivatives information applies to trading instruments (CFD and spread betting), which are coming soon to the new IG app.

Accounts and balances

Why do my non-GBP balances not appear in my overview?

Multi-currency support is a feature we are working on and will be available on the IG app in the future. When this feature becomes available, this article will be updated. You can also reach out to us via Chat or WhatsApp at a later stage to check on availability.

As a non-GBP account holder, some overview figures in the app may not yet reflect your non-GBP balances. In the meantime, your accounts and funds remain fully secure and accessible as normal.
