How do I search for instruments on the IG app?

Search lets you find any instrument available on IG — by name, ticker, or type. You can search across all product types at once or filter by a specific mode.


Tap the Search icon from the top navigation bar on any screen to open Search. The keyboard activates automatically. Tap the back arrow to close Search and return to the previous page.

The search bar placeholder text reads: Search by name, ticker or type.


What do I see before I start typing?

The Search home screen shows:

  • Recently viewed: instruments you have recently looked at, shown as chips at the top. If you have no search history, this section is not shown.

  • Categories: all available instrument types available at launch, including Shares, ETFs, Complex ETFs, Investment Trusts, and Cryptocurrency.

Available categories are:

  • Shares

  • ETFs

  • Complex ETFs

  • Investment Trusts

  • Cryptocurrency

  • FX

  • Commodities

  • Bonds & Rates


How do I search for a specific instrument?

  • Tap the search bar and type the instrument name, ticker, or type.

  • Results appear as you type, showing the instrument name, ticker, and available product types.

  • The number of results is shown at the top (for example, 36 results).

  • Tap any result to go to its product details page.

If the same instrument is available in multiple product types, these appear as separate entries. Stock and crypto instruments are available for trading and investing on the IG app. We are working to make the IG app available for all product types offered at IG.

Note: Bottom navigation is replaced by the keyboard while Search is active. It reappears when Search is closed, remembering its previously selected tab.


How do I filter search by product type?

Tap the mode button (ALL, STOCK, or CRYPTO) at the top right to change your Focus Mode. CFD and Spread Bet mode buttons are coming soon to the new IG app.


How do I browse instruments by category?

  • From the Search home screen, tap any category (for example, Indices or Shares).

  • The category opens with a list of available instruments, sorted by most popular first.

  • Use the sub-filter tabs at the top to narrow by region or type.

  • Tap the Sort button to change the sort order.


How do I add an instrument to a watchlist from Search?

  • Tap the star icon next to any instrument in the search results or category list.

  • The Add to watchlist screen appears, showing your existing watchlists.

  • Tap the watchlist you want to add the instrument to, or tap Add to new watchlist to create a new one.

  • Tap Save. A green confirmation appears: Market added to watchlist ✓

Note: You can hold up to 50 watchlists.


What if my search returns no results?

If no instruments match your search, you will see: No results found - We couldn't find anything related to your search. Tap Discover assets to go to the Discover tab and browse available markets.

How do I find an instrument to invest in?

Tap the Search icon from the top navigation bar. Type the instrument name, ticker, or category. Results appear as you type. Tap any result to go to its product details page where you can place a trade or investment.

Can I search by ticker symbol?

Yes. You can search by instrument name, ticker symbol, or type. Results appear as you type.

Why does the same instrument appear more than once in results?

If an instrument is available in multiple product types, each version appears as a separate entry. Stock and Crypto product types are available for trading on the IG app.

How do I filter results to show only stocks?

Tap the mode button at the top right of the search screen and select STOCK. Search results update immediately to show only stock instruments. Your mode selection is saved when you return to search.

What are the sub-categories I can filter by?

Each category has its own set of sub-filter tabs. For example, Indices can be filtered by All, US, Europe, APAC, and Thematic. Shares can be filtered by All, FTSE 100, FTSE 250, FTSE Small Caps, US 500, US Tech 100, and Wall Street.

How do I add an instrument to my watchlist from Search?

Tap the star icon next to any instrument in search results or a category list. Select the watchlist you want to add it to, or create a new one. Tap Save to confirm. A green confirmation toast will appear.

What do I do if my search returns no results?

If no results are found, tap Discover assets to browse available markets in the Discover tab. You can also try a different search term or browse by category

Can I see my recent searches?

Yes. The Search home screen shows your recently viewed instruments as chips at the top of the screen. If you have no search history, this section is not shown. Clearing your search history is not available at this time.
