Registrar definition
In share dealing terms, registrars keep a register of who owns shares on behalf of listed companies.
They keep lists of all registered share owners, and they hold a history of the share ownership. They ensure that dividends are paid to the correct people, and they can help individuals who, for example, may have lost paper share certificates or who need to reclaim past dividends after moving house.
There are three main share registrars in the UK: Capita, Equiniti and Computershare.
