How do I deposit funds and start investing in my Smart Portfolio?
After opening your IG Smart Portfolio, completing the risk questionnaire and selecting your portfolio, any funds deposited into the portfolio will automatically be invested as soon as possible.
An initial deposit of more than £500 is required before we can begin investing your funds. Thereafter, deposits made between 8.30am and 4.30pm (UK time) will be automatically invested, provided they meet the minimum amounts of £50 by bank transfer or £250 by card.
You can add funds to your account by debit card or bank transfer. If the market is open, funds are usually invested the same day. However, settlements can take two to three business days.
Depositing on desktop:
1. Open your Smart Portfolio platform in My IG under the ‘dashboard’ tab
2. Select the ‘deposit funds’ button to the right
Depositing on the mobile app
To fund your IG Smart Portfolio on the mobile app, select ‘account’ at the bottom right of the app and click ‘add funds’.
Setting up standing orders
If you’d like to make regular contributions to your portfolio, you can set up a standing order from your bank for just £50 per month, which will be credited within three working days. Please use your name and IG account ID as the reference. Your IG account ID is a five-character code that can be either alphabetic (like ABCDE) or alphanumeric (like CX17H).

- You can only invest in an IG Smart Portfolio with the pound (GBP). If you deposit in a non-GBP currency, we’ll automatically convert it into pounds at the prevailing spot rate, plus our forex conversion charge of 0.7%
- We don’t accept credit cards for deposits into your IG Smart Portfolio account as we deem them an unsuitable funding method for this long-term investment solution
- All payments are subject to security checks and must originate from a source held in your name. When returning funds, we usually use the same method and the same account we received it from
