Thursday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed down 35 points at 16,360, the NASDAQ finished up six points at 4357 and the S&P 500 ended the day flat at 1873.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently up 30 points at 6805.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is up two pips at $1.6724, EUR/USD is up two pips at $1.3736 and USD/JPY is up 46 pips at ¥102.76. Brent crude is up 25 cents at $108.03 and gold is trading at $1334, down $3.

Stocks: Budget airline easyJet posted a 2.9% rise in its yearly passenger numbers. Power generation and temperature-control equipment supplier Aggreko has revealed an 8% drop in its annual profits.

The day ahead: German factory orders are expected at 11am. The Bank of England and European Central Bank interest rate announcements will be released at 12pm and 12.45pm respectively. William Dudley of the Federal Reserve is speaking at 1.15pm, and the European Central Bank press conference begins at 1.30pm.

In the US, jobless claims are expected at 1.30pm, followed by factory orders at 3pm.
