The first big tech firm to report managed to beat EPS expectations, but guidance for the coming quarter was weak, prompting a negative reaction in the share price. Intel said the final quarter was a strong end to a good year. However, the firm forecast $13.7 billion in revenue for the first quarter, below the $13.78 billion currently expected. Demand does tend to be lower in the first quarter, with the result that margins can be lower as well, so the muted guidance is not unexpected. The strong rally in the shares in the past year has meant that they currently trade on a PE of 17.4, which leaves little room for disappointment given the higher expectations for Intel.
