Friday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed up 74 points at 16,272, the NASDAQ finished up 26 points at 4318 and the S&P 500 ended the day up nine points at 1854.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently up five points at 6815.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is up 39 pips at $1.6729, EUR/USD is down two pips at $1.3708 and USD/JPY is down 39 pips at ¥101.73. Brent crude is down 20 cents at $108.77 and gold is trading at $1853, down $1.

Stocks: International Consolidated Air (IAG), parent of the British Airways and Iberia brands, posted an annual operating profit of €770 million, beating analysts’ expectations.  

The day ahead: The Italian Consumer Price Index (CPI), eurozone CPI and unemployment figures will be released at 10am. In the US, GDP will be announced at 1.30pm and the Chicago purchasing managers index will be reported at 2.45pm. The University of Michigan consumer sentiment will be revealed at 2.55pm, followed by pending home sales at 3pm.
