Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed up 92 points at 17,068, the NASDAQ finished up 23 points at 3923 and the S&P 500 ended the day up ten points at 1985.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down five points at 6860.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is up four pips at $1.7159, EUR/USD is down six pips at $1.3603 and USD/JPY is down 13 pips at ¥102.06. Brent crude is up two cents at $111.12 and gold is trading at $1322, up $3.

Stocks: Ryanair reported a 5% increase in passengers during June, while easyJet also revealed a 10% increase in passengers for the same month.

The day ahead: The eurozone retail purchasing managers index is due out at 9.30am. In the US, stock markets are closed as it is Independence Day.
