Friday night in the US: The Dow Jones closed down five points at 16,851, the NASDAQ finished up 17 points at 3844 and the S&P 500 ended the day up three points at 1960.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently up 17 points at 6774.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is down 15 points at $1.7022, EUR/USD is down three points at $1.3645 and USD/JPY is down one point at ¥101.43. Brent crude is down 61 cents at $112.72 and gold is trading at $1314, down $2.

Stocks: TUI Travel is to merge with TUI AGKoninklijke Philips will merge its automotive lighting and LED component businesses into one separate company which will be sold off.

The day ahead: UK mortgage approvals are due out at 9.30am, followed by eurozone CPI and Italian CPI at 10am. In the US, the Chicago PMI is due out at 2.45pm, followed by pending home sales at 3pm.
