Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed down 109 points at 16,734, the NASDAQ finished down 34 points at 3764 and the S&P 500 ended the day down 13 points at 1930.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down 26 points at 6816.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is up 20 pips at $1.6824, EUR/USD is up 15 pips at $1.3657 and USD/JPY is down five pips at ¥102.42. Brent crude is up 20 cents at $108.82 and gold is trading at $1255, up $1.

Stocks: Tullow Oil has increased its loan facility to $500m to finance its Norway exploration. Intel has increased its revenue guidance for 2014 after higher-than-anticipated demand in the second quarter.

The day ahead: Today the eurozone employment data will be released at 10am, then in the afternoon the US core PPI is due out at 1.30pm.
