Friday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed up 65 points at 16,698, the NASDAQ finished up 23 points at 3735 and the S&P 500 ended the day up ten points at 1920.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down eight points at 6862.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is up 31 pips at $1.6749, EUR/USD is up 13 pips at $1.3615 and USD/JPY is down 11 pips at ¥101.67. Brent crude is down nine cents at $109.92 and gold is trading at $1258, up $2.

Stocks: Fenner has stated it expects its full-year profits to be 10 to 15% lower than last year. GlaxoSmithKline is rumored to be considering selling off some of its old drugs. 

The day ahead: The Italian consumer price index is due out at 10am.

In the US, personal income and spending are due out at 1.30pm. The Chicago purchasing managers index is expected at 2.45pm, followed by The University of Michigan consumer sentiment at 2.55pm.
