Monday morning snapshot

Friday night in the US: The Dow Jones closed down 140 points at 16,361, the NASDAQ finished down 57 points at 3533 and the S&P 500 ended the day down 15 points at 1863.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently up 16 points at 6701.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is up 42 points at $1.6846, EUR/USD is up 38 points at $1.3873 and USD/JPY is up three points at ¥102.19. Brent crude is up 47 cents at $109.96 and gold is trading at $1304, up $1.

Stocks: BG Group’s chief executive officer Chris Finlayson has resigned with immediate effect; the company has stated it is for personal reasons. Premier Oil has discovered oil in Pakistan and Indonesia.

The day ahead: In the US, pending home sales will be released at 3pm.
