Monday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Friday night in the US: The Dow Jones closed up 58 points at 16,323, the NASDAQ finished up four points at 4155 and the S&P 500 ended the day up eight points at 1857.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently up 35 points at 6651.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is down two pips at $1.6638, EUR/USD is down five pips at $1.3748 and USD/JPY is up five pips at ¥102.88. Brent crude is down 16 cents at $107.91 and gold is trading at $1291, down $3.

Stocks: Rolls-Royce has won a $50 million contract with the US Marines Corps to support its KC-130J air-to-air refuelling tankers.

The day ahead: Today will see the eurozone and Italian consumer price indices released at 9am.

In the US, the Chicago purchasing managers index is expected at 1.45pm, followed by a statement from Janet Yellen of the Federal Reserve at 1.55pm.
