Tuesday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed down 179 points at 16,257, the NASDAQ finished down 61 points at 4113 and the S&P 500 ended the day down 23 points at 1819.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down 33 points at 6723.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is up 40 pips at $1.6423, EUR/USD is up 19 pips at $1.3690 and USD/JPY is up 39 pips at ¥103.37. Brent crude is up 35 cents at $92.12 and gold is trading at $1252, down $1.

Stocks: Barratt Developments reported a 20% increase in completions over the past six months. ASOS reported a 37% increase in fourth quarter revenue. Balfour Beatty stated that the order book is flat on the year. 

The day ahead: UK CPI, PPI and HPI are due at 9.30am, followed by eurozone industrial production at 10am. In the US, retail sales are due out at 1.30pm, followed by business inventories at 3pm.
