This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently up 17 points at 6749.
FX and commodities: GBP/USD is down 66 pips at $1.6353, EUR/USD is down three pips at $1.3585 and USD/JPY is down 39 pips at ¥104.45. Brent crude is up 43 cents at $107.03 and gold is trading at $1241, up $3.75.
Stocks: The embattled Egyptian gold-mining company Centamin has posted a 36% increase in annual production. David Johnson has joined the board of UK-based aircraft parts producer Meggit as COO. Press speculation over the weekend has cited PwC sources stating that Royal & Sun Alliance’s recent £200 million write-down is a ‘one-off’, and subsequently the firm has found support in the markets.
The day ahead: Today the markets will see a raft of European service PMI figures from Italy, Spain, the EU and, later in the day, from the US too. In the US we will also have the latest monthly factory orders and the Federal Reserve chairperson nomination vote.
