A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed down 104 points at 15,739, the NASDAQ finished down five points at 3998 and the S&P 500 ended the day down six points at 1775.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down five points at 6440.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is down 21 pips at $1.6329, EUR/USD is up nine pips at $1.3763 and USD/JPY is up 19 pips at ¥103.57. Brent crude is down 37 cents at $108.32 and gold is trading at $1225, down $1.

Stocks: Insurer Royal & Sun Alliance has injected £135 million into its Irish division to meet solvency requirements.

The day ahead: Eurozone employment change is due for release at 10am. Spencer Dale of the Bank of England is speaking at 12.30pm. In the US, PPI will be announced at 1.30pm.
