Friday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed up 54 points at 15,876, the NASDAQ finished up seven points at 3972 and the S&P 500 ended the day up eight points at 1790.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently up 11 points at 6677.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is down three pips at $1.6063, EUR/USD is down five pips at $1.3455 and USD/JPY is up 31 pips at ¥100.34. Brent crude is up six cents at $108.32 and gold is trading at $1284, down $2.

Stocks: Vedanta Resources reported a 17% drop in first half revenue. 

The day ahead: Eurozone CPI will be announced at 10am. In the US, empire state manufacturing state manufacturing and import prices will be reported at 1.30pm. Industrial production is due out at 2.15pm, followed by wholesale inventories at 3pm.
