Friday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed down two points at 15,371, the NASDAQ finished up 23 points at 3863 and the S&P 500 ended the day up 11 points at 1733.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently up 20 points at 6596.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is up 21 pips at $1.6187, EUR/USD is up two pips at $1.3677 and USD/JPY is ten pips higher at ¥98.01. Brent crude is down five cents at $109.05 and gold is trading at $1318, down $2.

Stocks: Provident Financial stated its performance was in line with expectations for the first nine months.

The day ahead: In the US, the Federal Reserve’s Daniel Tarullo is due to speak at 5.30pm.
