Wednesday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed down 66 points at 15,334, the NASDAQ finished up two points at 3768 and the S&P 500 ended the day down four points at 1697.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down 21 points at 6571.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is up 12 pips at $1.5992, EUR/USD is up four pips at $1.3478 and USD/JPY is down 13 pips at ¥98.86. Brent crude is up 48 cents at $109.12 and gold is trading at $1324, up $1.

Stocks: Balfour Beatty has won a contract worth £125 million. Punch Taverns announced a 23% drop in full-year pre-tax profits.

The day ahead: UK CBI realised sales are due for release at 11am. In the US, durable goods orders are due out at 1.30pm, followed by new home sales at 3pm.
