Wednesday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed up 31 points at 15,451, the NASDAQ finished up 14 points at 3684 and the S&P 500 closed up five points at 1694.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently up 10 points at 6621.

FX and commoditiesGBP/USD is down 10 pips at $1.5438, EUR/USD is down two pips at $1.3260 and USD/JPY is up four pips at Y98.24. Brent crude is down 19 cents at $106.52 and gold is trading at $1322, up $1.

Stocks: Eurasian Natural Resources reported a 17% decline in first-half pre-tax profits. Centamin announced a 22% decline in second-quarter pre-tax profits.

The day ahead: In Europe, the UK unemployment rate, claimant count and MPC minutes are due out at 9.30am, followed by eurozone GDP at 10am.

In the US, PPI is will be released at 1.30pm.
