Wednesday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow closed down 93 points at 15,518, the NASDAQ finished down 27 points at 3665 and the S&P 500 closed down nine points at 1697.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently down 34 points at 6570.

FX and commodities: GBP/USD is down 19 pips at $1.5329, EUR/USD is down seven pips at $1.3298 and USD/JPY is is down 80 pips at Y96.92. Brent Crude is up five cents at $105.38 and gold is trading at $1281, down $2.

Stocks: TUI Travel announced a 5% rise in third-quarter revenue. Randgold Resources reported a 33% drop in quarterly profit. Old Mutual revealed a 10% increase in first-half profit.

The day ahead: In Europe, the Bank of England inflation report is out at 10.30am. German industrial production follows at 11am. In the US, mortgage approvals are released at 12pm. (All times are London time.)
