Tuesday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow Jones closed down five points at 15,545, the NASDAQ finished up 12 points at 3600 and the S&P 500 closed up three points at 1695.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently up 27 points at 6650.

FX and commoditiesGBP/USD is up 17 pips at $1.5376, EUR/USD is up 13 pips at $1.3199 and USD/JPY is down 23 pips at Y99.41. Oil - Brent Crude is down eight cents at $108.12 and gold is trading at $1336, up $1.

Stocks: Croda International announced a 6.3% increase in first-half pre-tax profits.  

The day ahead: In Europe, UK mortgage approvals are due out at 9.30am. In the US, HPI will be announced at 2pm, followed by the Richmond manufacturing index at 3pm (all London times).
