Tuesday morning snapshot

A snapshot of the early morning's equity news and key market movements.

Last night in the US: The Dow closed up 126 points at 15,179, the NASDAQ finished up 28 points at 3452 and the S&P 500 closed up 12 points at 1639.

This morning in London: The FTSE 100 is currently up ten points at 6340.

FX and commoditiesGBP/USD is down 54 pips at $1.5668, EUR/USD is down 30 pips at $1.3337 and USD/JPY is up 42 pips at Y94.93. Oil - Brent Crude oil is down 21 cents at $105.29 and gold is trading at $1379, down $6.

Stocks: Whitbread reported a 3.1% rise in quarterly like-for-like (LFL) sales. Aggreko announced a 5% increase in half-yearly profits.

The day ahead: In Europe, UK CPI, RPI and PPI are due out at 9.30am, followed by German ZEW economic sentiment at 10am. In the US, building permits, housing starts and CPI are due out at 1.30pm. (All times are London times.)
