A better service

We're simplifying the costs that you pay, and 'shopping around' for the best possible price for you. And we're looking in a lot of shops.

Local denominations

We don’t force you to convert currency when you buy international shares, saving you money on FX charges.

‘At quote’ and 'on exchange'

Most traditional stockbrokers only use a 'request for quote' or 'at quote' process. We also offer execution 'on exchange', which gives you the opportunity to interact directly with various lit and dark order books to find the best price.

Searching for liquidity

We use smart order routing (SOR) technology to search for liquidity across multiple venues, starting with 'dark pools' that offer mid-point matching – giving you the best possible chance of getting price improvements.

Available markets

We quote more than 9000 shares from the following stock indices in local denominations:

  • UK: FTSE 100, FTSE 250 and many other small cap UK stocks
  • US: S&P 500, NASDAQ 100 and many other small cap US stocks
  • Germany: DAX, HDAX, MDAX
  • Ireland: ISEQ
  • Netherlands: AEX
  • Belgium: BEL20
  • Austria: ATX, WBI
  • Australia: ASX/S&P 300

FAQs

What’s the difference between share dealing and shares trading?

At IG, we use the term share dealing to refer to our service of buying and selling shares on your behalf.

When we talk about ‘share trading’, we’re collectively referring to all our products that enable you to take advantage of share price movements: share dealing, CFD trading and spread betting.

How does IG get the 'best possible prices'?

At IG we currently source 'at quote' prices from fifteen of the largest retail service providers (RSPs), which means you have a much better chance of getting the best available price.

We also offer execution 'on exchange,' where we use smart order routing (SOR) technology to search for liquidity across multiple venues, starting with 'dark pools' that offer mid-point matching – giving you the best possible chance of getting price improvements.

Can I use my cash equities to margin other trades?

Yes. If you have both a margined IG account and a share dealing account you can use up to 95% of the value of your shareholdings to cover margin requirements on spread bets or CFDs.

We also offer our lowest commission rate of £5 on UK shares to any client who has placed a single leveraged trade in the previous month.

See our collateral service page for more and to learn how to set up collateral.3

1 If you have an active CFD or spread betting account that is accessible under the same login as your share dealing account, you’ll automatically qualify for our lowest commission rate if you’ve placed at least one spread bet or CFD trade in the previous calendar month. If you do not have a CFD or spread betting account with IG, your commissions will be determined based on your share-dealing activity (UK stocks only). Place 10+ trades in the previous month to qualify for a £5 commission rate. See our full list of share dealing charges and fees.

IG SIPPs are administered by James Hay, who charge a £195 annual fee and may charge for transferring making contributions of investments not currently held in a SIPP.

3 When using IG’s collateral service your share portfolio is at risk. We reserve the right to liquidate any stock held on your stock broking account to offset any debit balance incurred on any of your other IG accounts.
